Hi, I’m Kat.
I was raised in a military family in the suburbs just outside of Washington, D.C. I completed my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech in 2004. Since then, I’ve worked in the health and wellness industry from various angles.
Upon moving to Richmond in 2007, I held the position as Personal Training Director and Group Exercise instructor at a large chain co-ed fitness center. At this time I was in the best shape of my life - personal training 40 hours a week, taught more than 10 cycle and group fitness classes per week. In December of 2009, I suffered a stroke causing nerve dysfunction on right side of my body. Through daily practice at a local Bikram hot yoga studio I bounced back to almost 100%. Later, I worked toward earning professional status in both the INBF and WNBF body building federations, later becoming a Natural Bodyz sponsored athlete. Always continuing my own education I earned certifications in Dietetic Behavioral Counseling. I have also studied with teachers such as Mado Hesselink, Jason Crandall, Rolf Gates, Thomas Meyers, Jill Miller, Leslie Kaminoff, Amy Matthews, and Russell Brunson.
In 2013, I broke my tailbone in a skydiving accident and self-rehabilitated with hot yoga. This time, I studied under John and Chris Yax, owners of the Yax Yoga Concepts. This style of yoga adheres to being open to evolving with the needs of the individual and the community.
Always working toward expanding my knowledge to help others in the health and wellness space, I relocated to Fort Collins, CO. Here, I began studies toward sports massage therapy and vacuum machine cupping at the Healing Arts Institute. When not at work, you can find Michael and I in the mountains and deserts with our son, Wyatt, and 2 dogs.
Currently, I run my private Injury Rehab practice. I am “fascinated” by fascia and movement. I strive to forges links between the worlds of fitness, athletics, yoga, grounded wisdom teachings, massage, and pain management. My Brain Meets Body programs are found at gyms, yoga studios, and athletic training facilities throughout Fort Collins. I hope to guide my students to connect to their true self in a more physical, emotional, and spiritual way through self-care and a safe bodywork practice.
